Kauai Revisited

The first time I visited Kauai, I flew in for a memorable photography workshop, and my daughter Erin met me there. The next time I visit Kauai, my daughter Erin will be leading me there to make some epic new memories — at her wedding.

As our family books flights and accommodations and looks forward to the big day, I took a look back at my 2014 photos of Kauai. Here is a waterfall image from the “Garden Isle” of Hawaii.

You can see why Kauai is called the garden isle. It is not hard to find lush wilderness here.

Surely, our second visit to Kauai in July will offer many new photo opportunities on this beautiful Hawaiian island.

Early Hydrangea

My own hydrangeas around my house won’t bloom until the end of June, but a visit to the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh allowed me to dream of a summer day.

Does the lush hydrangea bloom evoke memories for you? A daughter’s wedding? Or perhaps a summer vacation in Cape Cod?

Courtney’s flowers

While Courtney and Scott were off on their honeymoon, I had a photo shoot with their wedding flowers. Courtney loved the soft color medley of white, pale green and peach, but she asked the florist Kevin Morris to add some “pop” of vibrant colored flowers as well. In this photo, you can see how Kevin put it all together.

My daughter’s wedding

There comes a time when a professional photographer cannot function as such. One of those times is when she is the mother of the bride.  So much planning, so much coordination, so much emotion and excitement when it all comes together, and one more thing … You just have to live it, to experience the day, to take it all in.

For Courtney and Scott’s wedding, I put the photography responsibility in the able hands of Aimee Rossi, of Naples Florida, and she proved herself hardworking, skilled, talented and ultimately successful. As both a mother and a photographer with high standards, I am so very grateful. Let me say thank you to Aimee, and share her name with future families looking for this same quality. Here are two of Aimee’s photos:

Hydrangea Season

My hydrangea bushes in Pennsylvania are ready to bloom again this week. I’m reminded of my daughter’s wedding on June 30, 2012 when my hydrangeas were in full bloom by my back door.

It’s fun to see different colors on the same bush! The blossoms are so delicate.

Hydrangeas  also remind me of Cape Cod, because they thrive there and look so pretty against the weathered shingled houses. How do hydrangeas make you feel?
